Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them to run the site and, with your consent, to measure traffic and show relevant ads.
1. Strictly necessary
Required for core functionality such as remembering your language and security settings. These cannot be disabled.
2. Analytics
We measure traffic in two independent ways so that neither a consent choice nor an ad blocker leaves us completely blind.
Our own counter is cookie-less and runs server-side: it records the page, the referrer domain, a device type, the visitor's country and the visitor's IP address. The country is resolved locally from that address with an offline database, so it is never sent to a third party. The address is kept for 30 days and then erased automatically: it exists so an operator can separate a scraper from a reader, it is never linked to an account, and it never leaves our server. The user agent string itself is never written to disk — only the browser, operating system and device type it implies. Visitors are counted with a salted hash of IP and user agent that is recomputed every day, so nothing can follow you across days or around other websites. The counter runs on the legal basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service available and abuse-free, and it stays active when you reject non-essential cookies because it sets nothing on your device.
The third-party counter 51.LA is only loaded after you accept non-essential cookies. It sets its own cookies and receives your IP address and browser signature. Rejecting non-essential cookies means it is never loaded.
3. Advertising
With your consent, advertising partners may set cookies to show relevant ads. Ad scripts only load after you accept. Accounts that have purchased credits never see ads.
4. Managing cookies
You can change your choice at any time using the cookie banner or your browser settings. Rejecting non-essential cookies does not affect the tools.
